Text Box: Text Box: Welcome to a world where reality blends with theater- where time and space become blurred, and the conscious and unconscious coexist.  At every turn, you ask- "is that art?"  Hang on to your mind, it will become easy to lose.
Theme Relevance
The theme for 2008 is "The American Dream"  We of APOKILIPTIKA will contort this into our own sub theme of:
"FREEDOOM and DOOMOCRACY"

The Apocalypse
Originally meaning "revelation," the word now is associated with the end of the world.  End of the world mythology is deeply rooted in the human psyche, as every culture not only has creation myths, but end of the world myths as well.  With the modern overlays of politics, ideology/cultural delusion, militarism and science/technology run amok, our contemporary concept of the end times has evolved considerably.  The underlying thread, particularly today, is FEAR or "PARANOIA."  I leave it up to you to interpret this in our context.  Of course a theme camp is an expression of individual personality, and is allowed to be independent of the annual theme.  With the 2006 theme of HOPE and FEAR, our camp directly and deeply connects.

Reality and Uncertainty
APOKILIPTIKA and it's inhabitants pride themselves on creating an atmosphere in which a visitor, at times, may never really know if what is happening-- is actually happening.
Frightful scenes of apparent interrogations in the new "Doom Dome"- a Dome of Fear for 2006, may be just what they seem... perhaps not.  Please do not ask the women of the Interrogation Squad about this as they will certainly tell you the pain and turmoil is real.  They are programmed to say that.  You must decide for yourself what is theater, what is reality and what is uncertainty.  That's Burning Man.
Collaborations
We explore collaborations with others.  For example, in 2005 I teamed with Mr. Jellyfish on a few very spicy ideas.  This included “Mini Man” which is a 12 foot tall "Land Puppet."   He has articulated shoulder joints and legs, which walk, move and even dance.   Our whole camp was, is and will be collaboration.  By sharing skills and talents, we multiply our capabilities, share success and become greater than the sum of our parts.
A long term goal of APOKILIPTIKA as a collective of artists and creators, is to foster collaboration and expand capabilities for creativity in the other 51 weeks as well.

In The End...
In the end as in the beginning, the question remains- "Is That Art?"  A question this writer cannot answer... a subjective one that only you can answer.  We of APOKILIPTIKA are pleased to provide just one more way for you to consider the question.

PARTICIPATE!
