Terminal City Member Camp Description

"Star Trek TOS" Shuttlecraft Galileo

The "Star Trek TOS" shuttlecraft Galileo will be back to Burning Man for the second year in a row, as part of Terminal Village. The "Galileo" is a somewhat-accurate reproduction of the famous TV prop used in the 60's television series on NBC (now in Color!) The shuttlecraft is designed to hold about 10 people in reasonable comfort and safety, as we "fly" about the playa, entertaining people with our whimsical vehicle, videos, music and more. The "Galileo" carries a first-aid kit, water, blankets, fire-extinguisher, Tronja (which is Tang in a square glass), communications devices, Internet access, etc.

Any known or planned activities or events

The shuttlecraft Galileo and crew expect to volunteer for a Greeter's shift, to arrive early on Saturday to help our team at Terminal Village (and others) build their theme camps. We're currently looking into volunteering at other locations (Media Camp, etc.). The shuttlecraft "Galileo" is expected to run a regular route of sorts, up and down and back and forth around the streets and out across the playa. If we see people in trouble, we will stop and help where we can. For people with limited mobility, the "Galileo" is a way for them to see the sights and enjoy the playa, which otherwise they might have missed. At this point, we believe we can post the "Galileo" flight schedule on a white-board at Terminal Village and a reasonable attempt will be made to stay within those time-frames.

Description of interactivity

Our goal is to give a ride to as many people in the shuttlecraft "Galileo" as we possibly can, as long as safety is not compromised.

Warning: Use the shuttlecraft only as directed.

Excessive exposure to shuttlecraft has been proven to cause neurological dysfunction in laboratory animal testing.
Keep the shuttlecraft out of the reach of children.
Keep children out of the reach of shuttlecraft.
If you come in direct contact with shuttlecraft:
Rinse the affected area immediately with a mild soapy solution.
Get help immediately.
Get shuttlecraft crew help immediately.
Note: Due to time displacement equipment, shuttlecraft has been known to cause memory loss, severe vomiting and dehydration (no, wait…that’s Tequila).

Physical Description:
--------------------
We're going for a Star Trek theme this year, which includes costumes,
space art, space games, chill space, etc. We're building a Star Trek
"Wheel Of Doom"
(Come and spin our Wheel Of Doom!) We've had the Wheel Of Doom at
various camps in years past - including Camp Lunatic, Marina De Bohemia,
etc. It's always a big hit with the crowd.

Interactivity Description:
-------------------------
There's costumes for both our crew and for some of the peeps who come by
our camp. One of our many goals is to "dress people up" in garb and take
them for shuttlecraft rides. We have space games and space art, chill
space, etc. We're building a Star Trek "Wheel Of Doom" (Come and spin
our Wheel Of Doom!) We've had the Wheel Of Doom at various camps in
years past - including Camp Lunatic, Marina De Bohemia, etc. It's always
a big hit with the crowd. We've helped many, many Burners in years past
with our various camps, feeding people, watering them, giving them a
safe place to kick back and take a load off.

Leave No Trace plan:
-------------------
("As in every year our team has been directly or indirectly involved in
theme camps, we take pride in cleaning up our camp before, during and
after the event. If you look at past years, starting with Marina De
Bohemia in 2002, Cafe Luna in 2003, Camp Lunatic in 2004, RISA in 2006,
Shuttlecraft Galileo in 2007, all of our camps have appeared in green
every year on the LNT maps, as far as we know. Izard is our LNT manager,
as he has been the last several years and we promise to leave the playa
as we found it. Izard is the LNT boss and all of us in our camp answer
up to him. We actually spent several hours cleaning up junk and MOOP we
found all over the playa, as we ride around in our shuttlecraft. We
picked up dozens of bottles, cans, papers, candy wrappers, batteries,
flashing jewelry that was dead, etc. and put the junk in bags we kept
inside the shuttlecraft. Later, when we got home, we recycled 90% of
what we found. Some of the MOOP couldn't be recycled but we disposed of
all in the proper manner. We had garbage cans one year in our camp but
discovered this was a bad idea! This year, if someone asks to throw
something away, yes, we'll accept the item and dispose of it properly.
We love the event, we love being environmentally careful and cautious,
and we promise to do a good job of cleaning up this year, as we have in
years past. Call me if you have questions: Gary 916-334-1342.",)
